This incredible field trip offers a whole day of FREE interactive exhibits! Bring your lunch, hope to see you there!
WORLD OF LIFE
From apple trees to honeybees, we’re more alike than you think! Visit the World of Life for a surprising new look at the living world–from an up-close peek at the tiniest creatures to a larger-than-life encounter with the human body. Engage in hands-on exhibits, observe real plants and animals, and learn how living things from across the tree of life grow, develop, and survive.
FIRE! SCIENCE & SAFTEY
The Fire! Science & Safety exhibition invites you to explore Casa Del Fuego, Apartment 911 as a fire danger detective, seeking out fire and burn hazards so you can help make families, pets and homes safer. Hands-on interactives give you a chance to explore the science of fire—safely—by creating “fire” out of different ingredients in our firepit, practice fire-fighting skills with a fire extinguisher, and figure out which appliances might blow a circuit if you use them together.
ECOSYSTEMS
In our world, everything is connected. Plants, animals, people, weather, water, soil—all are part of a delicate balance. Living things can change their environments—and through a process called adaptation, environments can even change living things! With a visit to Ecosystems, discover amazing environments from the familiar to the fantastic, and find out how the physical and living worlds affect—and in some ways, define—each other. Investigate the gallery’s ten zones, each of which explores a different ecological principle.
AIR & SPACE
Since before the dawn of history, the possibilities of flying and exploring the stars have propelled humans to great feats of imagination and ingenuity. Explore our unique collection of artifacts and hands-on activities to discover how humans design aircraft, spacecraft and space probes for specific tasks by using our knowledge of the principles of air, space and flight.
WAVE PHYSICS
Get ready for some fun with physics! Explore the science of light and sound as you learn how energy moves in waves. Send a secret through the Echo Tube, hear the Science Center hum through the Pipes of Pan, and get a colorful new perspective at See Yourself in Infrared.
ROY A. ANDERSON BLACKBIRD EXHIBIT & GARDEN
When visiting the Science Center, your science exploration begins as soon as you arrive. Surrounding the parking structure, you’ll find gardens and exhibits that invite you to take a closer look at the amazing biodiversity found around Southern California. Get a sneak peek of many of Southern California’s diverse ecosystems below, and then come visit the garden to see an amazing collection of California plants in one place!
DISCOVERY ROOMS (7 & UNDER ONLY)
Imagine a place where young learners become explorers, storytellers, scientists, engineers, chefs or anything they can dream up. Our Discovery Rooms inspire children, along with their families and caregivers, to learn about the world around them. Embedded within the three main exhibit halls of the Science Center, these unique spaces are designed for you and your early learner (ages 7 and under). These learning environments provide opportunities for kids to use their creativity and creative problem solving skills to explore, ask questions, and find answers!
Kids, families and school groups can make use of the Discovery Rooms, which include interactive exhibits, storytelling, activities, animal displays and space for self-directed exploration. The spaces promote adult-child interaction and cooperative learning among children. A joyful place for families to play, learn, create, and grow together!
